Volunteerism

I've always enjoyed volunteering.

I thought that these activities should be listed under one heading and not scattered all over the website.

Adult Literacy

I had the priveledge of volunteering for the Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven from September 2019 to November 2022.

I had been matched with a student and we had just settled into our in-person classes when the covid lockdowns were implemented - so the majority of our classes were held via Zoom or Google Meet.

It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend this activity to any adult who wishes to become more involved in their community.

Parent Volunteer - local school district

When my boys were younger, I spent many hours volunteering in their schools.

This page is dedicated to some of the activities that I enjoyed doing with them during those very special years.

Photo Restoration for OPR

After Hurricaine Katrina, I reached out to Operation Photo Rescue to see if my photo restoration skills could be of use.

I have lost track of most of the images that I restored for that organization, but my favorite is shown on my Photo Restoration page.

Knitting for Munich

In September of 2015, Knitwear designer, Laura Nelkin began a discussion on Ravelry.com, requesting donations of knitted items for the refugees fleeing Syria.

Knitters, crocheters & weavers from around the world answered this request, resulting in over a thousand hand crafted items ... that were then placed into the hands of individuals seeking asylum worldwide.

I set up a webpage to spotlight the various websites and news stories that were focusing on this cause.

Links relevant to the Knitting for Munich Project can be found here.
