Knitting for Munich - Ravelry

In September of 2015, Andrea Dular, a doctor in Germany, along with Knitwear designer, Laura Nelkin began discussions on Ravelry.com, requesting donations of knitted items for the refugees fleeing Syria. Rowan Morrison Books blogged about it with an awesome little infographic, rallying Portlanders to the cause; Åsa Söderman helped spread the word on her website, Åsa Tricosa ...

I began to have trouble finding all of these wonderful articles and translations in the growing number of posts ... and thought that it would be helpful to combine the articles into PDF's with the translations, to create a single place on the web and post links to those PDF's, (along with the source web sites), to make it a little easier to find information about the evolution of this wonderful project ...

Here's a link to Laura's Recap of this wonderful project... The Knitting for Munich project has officially come to a close, but Laura has generously provided links for folks who would like to use their wooly skills to help the world...

Knitters, crocheters & weavers from around the world answered this humble request, resulting in over a thousand hand crafted items ... which are now either in transit or currently being placed in the hands of individuals seeking asylum worldwide!

"I’m sure all of you have heard about the worldwide Refugee problem as millions are fleeing Syria and seeking asylum worldwide. One of our lovely members, (Andrea Dular) is a doctor outside of Munich who works in a public health office...

"The winter months are coming and many of these refugees are not properly prepared for the cold. So, I am hoping some of you can take a little time out from your knitting projects and make them some warm items...

"Andrea has offered to be a “hub” for us to help get the woolens to those in need… In her town alone they are expecting 1,000 refugees and many of them will be living in tents..." *

I was able to contribute a few hand-made items and was so very moved by the heartwarming images and articles that were shared as awareness was raised about this worthwhile project.

Andrea kindly posted links to news sources ... and Heather, another Ravelry member, generously translated some of the articles into English for those of us who do not understand German.
