Volunteer / School

When my boys were younger, I was an active volunteer in their schools. We are fortunate to live in an area with a wonderful school district!

Throughout most of their elementary years, I was simply a parent volunteer. I had a weekly time slot where I engaged in whatever activity the teacher asked of me.

I read weekly with children, sometimes in groups, sometimes individually. I was a math helper one year where I sat in the hall with individual children to guide with exercises that they found difficult.

And, of course, being a parent chaperone during many field trips was wonderful fun.

As my own children grew older, I started to back away to give them some space - and eventually stopped volunteering in the schools all together. (Teenage boys don't necessarily want their mothers lurking in their school hallways!)

Below are links to some of the more formalized programs that encouraged parent volunteers. I loved every minute of involvement!
